Sweden beats Russia in Overtime for Juniors Gold

Sweden beats Russia in Overtime for Juniors Gold

If you thought the events on the ice during the past 48 hours were remarkable, they were just as amazing in our game!

Kelly, one of the Prediction Challenge regulars, won a Prediction Challenge for the first time since 2005, a drought almost as long as the Swedes’ at the Junior Worlds! Congratulations!

If that wasn’t enough, Kelly accomplished this with a score in the Medal Round of zero, but came out on top via the tiebreaker from the Bronze Medal game. Congratulations to Amy who reached the podium for the first time with her gutsy selection of the surprisingly dominant Swedes in the Gold Medal game, and to Wes for his third-place finish.

Medal Round Predictions

January 5, 2012

IIHF World Junior Championship 2012Amy has set herself up to steal the show! She was the only player to pick Sweden to defeat Russia in tonight’s final game.

The other six entries went with Russia to take the title yet again and avenge their Preliminary Round overtime loss to the Swedes, with the only action in the Prediction game being dependent on the score.

In our potential tiebreaker, Canada is the overwhelming favourite to take Bronze as well, with Amy again the only player to go against the grain.

Coming up just short

Coming up just short

Canada won’t be playing in the big game Thursday night, but six players still remain in the hunt for the top prize of $35.00! Wes was the big mover in the Semifinals round on the strength of his picking Sweden to beat Finland by that 3-2 score.

So, as promised, it will come down to the Russia-Sweden final, but with a few of us on scores ending with 2 and a couple ending in 8, the Canada-Finland may come into play as a tiebreaker.  Medal Round Predictions are due on Thursday, so don’t forget to submit the form!

Michael has skipped past Amy for the third podium place at the halfway mark of the game! Four players had the two quarterfinal winners correct, but nobody predicted the Finland-Slovakia outburst nor the tight Russia-Czech Republic battle.

Two rounds to go! Semifinals Predictions are due on Tuesday… don’t forget to submit the form!
