Canada Golden Again at Olympics
Jonathan Toews scored in the first period, Sidney Crosby in the second and Chris Kunitz in the third, and Carey Price made 24 saves for the shutout as Canada’s Men’s Olympic Team won its second consecutive gold medal, blanking Sweden 3-0 on Sunday.

Congratulations to Johnny! With his prediction of Canada winning in the Gold Medal game vs. Sweden, he maintained his lead atop the standings and claimed first place in the Prediction Challenge! John and Michael claimed the next two podium spots on the strength of Canada’s victory.

The Bronze Medal game tiebreaker was not employed as not players were tied on the final overall score.

We are unanimous in our belief that Sweden, Canada and the USA will make up three quarters of the final four, but three players are looking to spoil Putin’s day with a Finnish win over the host Russians.

Whew, That Was Close!
The Czech Republic jumped to an early 4-0 lead, but then had to fight off a furious rally by Slovakia in order to celebrate a quarterfinal berth against Team USA.

Tom continues to hold the lead while John Eastaugh was the big mover in a round where nobody had all four advancing teams correct, thanks to Latvia’s upset of Switzerland.

John was the only player to have a score correct with Slovenia’s 4-0 shutout of Austria; John, Tom and Wes each claimed the bonus for having three winners correct.

Qualification Playoffs Predictions

February 17, 2014

sochi-ice-hockeyFor download: olympic-men-2014-qualification-playoffs-predictions.pdf

Predictions are now in! We are unanimous in our thinking that Russia and Switzerland will dispatch Norway and Latvia, although there is definite disagreement as to how many goals will be scored in those games.

The round will come down to who comes out on top between the neighbouring countries facing off: six of eight of us believe the Czechs will beat the Slovaks, while five of us believe Austria will prevail in the mountain duel with Slovenia.

Enjoy the games!
